When you leave a comment on our site, the information entered in the comment form, along with your IP address and your browser’s user agent are collected to help us detect spam.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also known as a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it. If you upload images to the site, we advise you to avoid uploading images containing EXIF GPS coordinates. Visitors to the site may download and extract location data from these images.


If you leave a comment on our site, you will be given the option of saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is purely for your convenience, so you do not have to enter this information if you leave another comment later. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit the log-in page, a temporary cookie will be created to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and will be automatically deleted when you close your browser.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This means that subsequent comments can be automatically recognised and approved instead of being held in the moderation queue.
